ABOUT THE ART:
Marlene’s artwork and craft pieces are multi-media art objects, organic in design, inspired by nature,  to wear or display.     She designs from her concepts of nature often featuring insects, animals and people together as the basis for her iconography.  Butterflies, beetles, horses, people, landscape and objects are frequently interwoven in her art and her writing.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Marlene has been doing art in fiber, watercolor/collage, and beads for over 40 years, and writing poetry and making handmade books with her own poetry and artwork for 15 years. Her art has been widely exhibited in museums, libraries, galleries and private collections, and on file at the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, DC.  Her poetry has been widely published in print journals and anthologies, and on the web in e-journals.
Marlene has a BA and an MPA from City University of NY with an academic background in music, math, philosophy and public administration.  Although tutored at home and self-taught as an artist, she has supplemented her experience with courses in art and writing.   She has worked with students in many areas at all ages and levels and has also hosted poetry reading series at the Center for Book Arts in NYC, where she letterset printed her poetry for her books.  In addition to her numerous art exhibits, her readings and handmade books have been featured at many venues in NYC, NJ, California, Paris(France) and London(England).  and Manhattan Cable TV.  Since moving her studio and showroom to Ghent in February 2003 she has exhibited her artwork and presented her poetry locally at several venues.
